Shilumani Agricultural Hub was founded in 2024 to combat the abuses of factory farming, advocate for institutional reforms, and encourage a new awareness and understanding of farm animals and the benefits of plant-based living. In recent years, science has confirmed the inhumane and destructive impact of animal agriculture — a food system based on interrelated oppression and injustice.
As the founding farm animal Sanctuary in the South Africa., Shilumani Agricultural Hub has rescued and provided refuge for countless survivors of the animal agriculture system. Today, at Shilumani Agricultural Hub’s Maadzwane Village Kurhuleni Mission you will find over 600 rescued animals — each with an individual story to tell. These survivors are ambassadors, representing the thousands of farm animals currently in the system. They, and others like them, have changed the hearts and minds of a generation.
We believe that the biggest cause of cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialized approach – so we are relentlessly focused on ending factory farming. We pursue bold solutions to end animal agriculture and foster just and compassionate vegan living.
Our vision is a world where farmed animals are treated with compassion and respect. Compassion advocates on behalf of all areas that are detrimentally impacted by factory farming, including: animals, the environment, public health, and community and workers’ justice.

The farm and field proven success concept of Shilumani Agricultural Hub is based on a combination of logical and scientifically proven biological, bio-dynamic and organic farming principles where natural organic, chemical and biological compounds are used to rectify and address analytically quantified imbalances and deficiencies.
About half of the calves produced by dairy cows are male and therefore not valuable for milk production. These calves are typically sold either raised for beef or are sold to veal farms, where they are raised in small pens isolated from other animals.
